Medicaid expansion was approved as part of the state’s budget and signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer on June 17th. This law will restore coverage to thousands of childless adults who are eligible for AHCCCS under an Arizona voter mandate that passed in 2000, but was unfunded because of budget challenges. It also includes coverage for childless adults from 100 to 133 percent of the federal poverty level (approximately $11,500 to $15,000 for a single adult).

My mother has NPH and I provide full-time care for her, and as such have given up full time employment. I work at a part-time job from home in which I earn only $250/month. Would I be eligible for this Medicaid program since I do not have any children? If so, do I apply at my nearest AHCCCS office or can I apply online?? I have not had medical insurance for the last 5 years, and do not have any pre-existing health conditions.

As I understand it Medicaid was expanded to cover individuals without children. I would recommend going to the Marketplace and enter your personal information . Once you do this you will be assessed to see if you qualify for financial assistance and/or government plans such as Medicaid.

To obtain factual information and details about this program contact the government site directly. https://www.healthcare.gov/
